Buyer’s Guide to Choosing Checkout Paper Bags

Paper checkout bags provide a practical option for retail stores, takeaway counters, markets and hospitality businesses needing simple packaging for customer purchases. Insinc’s range includes SOS and block-bottom paper bags in a variety of sizes from Green Choice, Fortune, Emperor, UniPak and Detpak.

Options range from compact bags for smaller goods through to larger checkout bags for takeaway orders, groceries and bulkier retail items. Most are supplied in cartons of 200, 250, 500 or 1,000 bags.

Which Checkout Bag Size Should You Choose?

Smaller SOS bags, such as 90 x 50 x 205mm and 125 x 70 x 270mm, suit compact products and lighter purchases. Medium formats provide more capacity for takeaway food, pharmacy items and general retail goods.

Larger checkout bags, including formats up to approximately 305mm wide and 450mm high, provide additional room for larger or multiple items. Always check the full width, gusset and height measurements rather than relying only on terms such as Small, Medium or Large.

What Are Block-Bottom and SOS Paper Bags?

SOS and block-bottom bags are designed with a flat base that allows the bag to stand more easily when opened and provides useful space for packing products. Gusseted sides also allow the bag to expand as items are added.

Choose the bag according to the size, shape and weight of the products being packed. For heavier or moisture-prone contents, check the individual bag specification before use. Some Castaway products are no longer available in New Zealand, and selected Detpak products may be out of stock, so alternative options may be required.c
